Susan,
I've done a lot of hiking with the Boy Scouts and Cub Scouts. You
should have no problem with the Rhododendron Park/Little Monadnock
hike. I've done that with my kids. It's a good judge of your
abilities.
I think that Mount Monadnock (aka Grand Monadnock) is the most
hiked mountain in the northeast. Which is good, because the trails
are well traveled and marked, but bad because, well, it is well
traveled. That is a more intermediate hike and most beginners can
usually handle that as well. I haven't hiked Blue Hills yet, but I
think that is an intermediate hike as well, comparable to Mount
Monadnock. Something like Mount Cardigan or Mount Tom is a bit more
advanced as the elevations are getting up there but they are still
doable for most folks. I HAVE seen some scouts have problems with
Mount Cardigan if they (1) are really out of shape, (2) they are
not wearing proper footwear, or (3) they do not drink enough water
and become dehydrated. Anything I setup will include the
difficulty.

Mount Monadnock is a good intermediate hike, pretty accessable for
most people and I've done Mt. Cardigan too, which is a bit more
challenging. I've never done Mt. Tom though.
I'd like to arrange a hike in early July to Little Monadnock via
Rhoedendron State Park. It's an easy hike for all, yes even young
kids, so it's a good introductory hike and the rhoedendrons are
supposed to be in bloom (I've done this hike later in July when the
blooms are gone, but there are wild blueberries on the top.

I'm glad I'm finally starting to get some replies. Maybe we should
set up a hiking specific group. I'd actually like to get out on the
mountains sooner rather than later.

Hey everyone, I don't have a car so if I plan it out ahead of time
I can get one. I would be interested in going with you guys. I
haven't been to either mountain and would be up for any of them!

Cool! Let's plan a weekend in advance! Anyone have any dates in
mind? If I don't respond until Monday night-don't count me out! I
won't have internet access (on purpose-to relax!) but will check it
when I get back!

I don't think so. What if we start off with someplace local like
the Blue Hills in Milton, see who wants to meet, set up a time and
see who shows up? Then if that activity is successful, we can
schedule a hiking trip at Monodnock or Cardigan.

Plus, gotta bring along my hiking companion, my dog Shadow. She'd
kick my butt if I went hiking and didn't take her along.

Okay, let's stop talking about it and actually get hiking. If
someone wants to organize a Blue Hills thing, that might be doable
for the city folk, but I'm setting my compass towards Little
Monadnock and Rhoedendron State Park.
This is a
really easy hike so the skill level should not be a problem. I haven't got the
info I need to post an event with me here at work, but I'll post an
event tonight from home for Saturday, July 14th. How does that
sound?
This is a few weeks away, but I picked the date based on when I
have my kids and other activities that I have upcoming.
Feel free to setup a Blue Hills thing or something else before
then. Maybe we can then do a Mount Monadnock things a couple of
weeks after this one.

Okay, I added the event for a hike of Little Monadnock and
Rhododendron State Park for anyone interested. The skill level is
easy and this would be a good test for anyone new to hiking to see
if you want to try a more difficult hike.
